IRIS FAILS TO BLOOM

Mary Reveley was still at a loss today to explain Brother Of Iris' flop in the Racing Post Chase.

Initial checks have found no physical problem with her stable-star, who was well behind when pulled up in Saturday's Kempton showpiece.

But all plans are "on hold" for the one-time leading Cheltenham Gold Cup hope, who has been taken out of the betting for that race by Ladbrokes and had his price pushed out to 33-1 by William Hill.

"Brother Of Iris has eaten up and at the moment we don't know what happened," Mrs Reveley said.

"He's only been led out today and we can't see anything. Obviously the vet will come and have a look at him so we should know more early in the week.

"But at the moment all plans are on hold."

The trainer knew that Brother Of Iris was struggling from an early stage in yesterday's race, for which he had been a leading fancy ante-post only to drift out to 11-2 third favourite at the off.

"He pitched at the second fence and seemed to lose his confidence," she said. "He was never jumping with any fluency afterwards."
