Hewick provided connections with a huge payday when landing the £160,000 bet365 Gold Cup at Sandown last month and trainer Shark Hanlon is looking forward to more exciting targets over the summer.
The seven-year-old gelding has gained six career wins to-date, evenly divided between hurdles and fences, and a mixed campaign is planned over the coming months.
The son of Virtual last ran over hurdles when runner-up at Gowran Park last October and with stamina obviously his strong suit, Hanlon is targeting some nice staying prizes.
The Bagenalstown trainer said, “He’s come out of the Sandown race great and will run over hurdles next week and then go for the Galway Plate.
“He’s rated 25lb lower over hurdles and there is a race at Ballinrobe next Tuesday (the McHale Mayo Handicap Hurdle) worth €30,000 and over three mile and a furlong.”
Ballinrobe hosts jump racing on Monday and Tuesday evening next week with the McHale raceday on Tuesday featuring the €60,000 McHale Mayo National Handicap Chase.
