Harrison’s Cave forged clear under Joseph O’Brien in the final furlong of the concluding one mile two furlong maiden at the Curragh to win by two lengths at 5/1.
The son of Galileo beat a field of 23 maidens. He was 10/1 in the morning and was further backed in from an opening show of 7/1. The three-year-old shed his maiden tag at the 10th time of asking. Smithfield for Noel Meade and Shane Foley finished second at 8/1 while market drifter Ansaab (5/2 in the morning out to an SP of 5/1) came home third a further two-and-a-half-lengths back.
“Joseph thinks he will stay a lot further. I was worried about the ground as he is a good moving horse, but he is a Galileo and they don’t know when to give up,” Aidan O’Brien said.
“He’s a tough, consistent and sound horse and he goes on this ground obviously.” Eva's Time was sent off the 4/1 favourite for Dermot Weld and Pat Smullen, however, she finished sixth.
