Hong Kong trainer Brian Kan has sacked his stable jockey Jimmy Quinn.
Kan has put in a request to the Hong Kong Jockey Club to terminate the agreement between his stable and the light-weight rider.
On Tuesday Kan had told Quinn that he would not be required for the next five meetings following the trainer's dissatisfaction with the way Quinn had ridden newcomer Master Fay in a race at Sha Tin's Chinese New Year meeting.
Quinn reported at the subsequent inquiry that Master Fay raced freely, repeatedly changed legs in the straight and made abnormal breathing noises.
The stewards considered Master Fay's performance as unacceptable and have stipulated that the import will have to undergo a barrier trial around a bend before being allowed to race in public.
Quinn has ridden 12 winners during this, his first spell in Hong Kong. However, his 4.9% strike rate is considered to be on the low side by local standards.
Kan is a controversial figure who has frequently fallen out with his jockeys. Amongst those who have previously lost their position with the trainer are David Harrison and Brent Thomson.
Quinn is expected to apply for a club jockey licence to ride until the end of the season. -PA
