Giovanni Change scores on debut in 4yo bumper Cousins Emmet and Patrick Mullins teamed up to take the Europe Hotel Killarney Flat Race with newcomer Giovanni Change. The French-bred gelding was sent to the front in a steadily run affair before halfway by the champion amateur, and was ridden to assert a furlong from home. The 9/2 chance kept on well to beat the 3/1 favourite Watch Guard by three and three quarter lengths, with Jazz Toes a length and a quarter further back in third. Emmet Mullins said, “We’ve actually had him a while but he’s been a bit of a slow burner. They have done a good job watering here but he definitely wouldn’t like it any quicker. “I’m surprised by that and he’ll be a nice horse going forward for the future. The further he goes the better I’d say, and he might even make into a winter horse. “I wouldn’t be afraid of slower ground as he has a fair knee action.”
