Tote Ireland and Topaz Fuels have teamed up for a joint promotion at this year’s Leopardstown Christmas Festival. One lucky Tote player will start the New Year with the prize of Free fuel for 2014.

To be in with a chance to win, just play the Pick 6, Placepot, Jackpot, Trifecta and Exacta on racing at Leopardstown over the Christmas Festival. Tote account customers will be entered into the draw automatically while those that are playing on the Tote at Leopardstown can just pop their betting slips into the prize draw boxes that are located at every Tote counter.

Tote has also announced generous guarantees for the Festival with the Pick 6 set to have a minimum €50,000 pool each day. To play this potentially lucrative bet, you need to pick the horses you think will win races 1 through 6.

The ever popular Placepot is also played on the first 6 races with the challenge here to select horses that you think will be placed. As with the Pick 6, players are not restricted to one horse per race. You can do a combination bet where you multiply the number of horses you have in each leg to work out your total number of units and then decide your unit stake (eg 2 X 2 X 2 X 2 X 2 X 2 = 64 units @ 20c = €12.80). The minimum stake is 10c so that allows for lots of permutations without breaking the bank. The Placepot is guaranteed for €20,000 daily at Leopardstown.

The Jackpot is perhaps the best known Tote bet and like the Pick 6, this one is all about picking winners. There are four legs in the Jackpot and it is always on races 3 to 6. The minimum Jackpot pool is guaranteed for €30,000 on Friday and Sunday as well as €20,000 on Thursday and Saturday.

The objective of the Tote Trifecta is to pick 1st, 2nd and 3rd in the correct order. It is available on all races and is great value with a minimum stake of 10c. The Trifecta has gone through a re-vamp recently with the introduction of the Super Trifecta on race 6 every Sunday which builds all week with 50% of the rollovers from all of the Trifecta races going to the Super pool. What this offers punters is a very large pool by the time Sunday rolls around and the chance of landing a decent return. The average payout on the Super Trifecta has been €2,083 for €1 stake so it’s definitely delivering value.

The Tote Exacta (pick the 1st and 2nd in the correct order in any race) should be a popular bet at the Leopardstown festival with so many short priced favourites dominating the betting market. The Exacta is a great antidote to the poor returns often offered by the hot favourites. Pick the favourite to come 1st and then pick the horse you think will be second. This is an effective way of getting more bang for your buck. Here are examples of some recent dividends when short priced favourites won: Sizing Rio 13/8 fav at Cork paid €16.50 on an Exacta, Moyle Park 4/5 fav at Navan paid €18.80 and Briar Hill 1/9 fav at Wexford paid €8.00.
