Trainer Pat Flynn completed a double at Roscommon today when his Galianna overcame a slow start to win the Derrinstown Stud Apprentice Handicap, under leading apprentice Gary Carroll.
Galianna, a daughter of Galileo, was slowly away and raced in rear before making progress from the end of the back straight. However, victory did look beyond Galianna two furlongs out, but she responded well to Carroll's urgings to eventually wear the leaders down to lead close home, for a head win over My Blue Heaven
The win moved Carroll onto the 35 winner mark for the season, eight clear of Shane Foley at the head of the Apprentice Jockeys' Championship.
