John Gosden today played down fears that Savoire Vivre`s Rothmans Royals St Leger bid was in doubt due to a setback.
Sheikh Mohammed`s colt drifted in the betting on Monday for the Doncaster Classic and was reported to have suffered a fitness scare in a national newspaper this morning.
But trainer Gosden said: 'I worked him on Sunday over nine furlongs and he worked nicely.
'There was a little bit of filling on Monday morning - nothing particularly serious. I had him out cantering this morning and he went well.
'I am happy with him at the moment but I shall be monitoring him day by day.'
The giant Savoir Vivre, whose dam Oh So Sharp completed the fillies` triple crown when winning the 1985 St Leger, did not make his racecourse debut until Ascot at the end of July.
'He`s a good horse and a big horse,' said the Manton trainer. 'He`s a late-maturing type who has taken his time to come to hand.'
Savoire Vivre, who was quoted as short as 7-2 for the St Leger on Monday, is currently a best-priced 5-1 with Ladbrokes for Saturday`s race.
Dermot Weld has left Media Puzzle in the 14-furlong contest.
However, the Curragh trainer warned: 'I`ll have a look at the race later in the week but he is more likely to run in the Irish St Leger.
'It would have been no good taking him out of Doncaster and then finding the race had cut up.'
Media Puzzle is a 40-1 chance with Ladbrokes for the St Leger.
