GODOLPHIN TO SET UP BASE IN CALIFORNIA

Godolphin announced today it has chosen Santa Anita racecourse in California as the base for a new North American training operation.

Some 30 two-year-olds have been assembled in Dubai under the supervision of Eoin Harty, who will train them in the USA.

They will travel to Santa Anita in the second half of April, at about the same time as other Godolphin horses leave for Europe.

California was chosen as two-year-old racing there is reckoned top-class and competitive and Godolphin wants to race its juveniles in the best company so as to be able to judge their potential merit.

Also, Harty has spent much of his time in California, notably when assistant trainer to Bob Baffert, and the climate is thought to complement the weather in Dubai.

Godolphin racing manager Simon Crisford said: "For all these factors, we feel that California is the right place for Godolphin's American training base and we look forward to competing in two-year-old races in California and throughout North America."

At the end of their two-year-old careers, selected American-based horses will return to Dubai for the winter with the intention of being prepared for the top American three-year-old races.

Besides its main location in Dubai, Godolphin also has training bases in Britain and France.
