GLYNDEBOURNE TRIUMPH

Glyndebourne provided Irish trainer Aidan O'Brien with some compensation for Aristotle's Vodafone Derby defeat by winning the Group Three Gallinule Stakes at the Curragh this afternoon.

Always close to the pace, Glyndebourne was sent to the front by Seamus Heffernan two furlongs out and the 5-1 chance advertised his prospects of competing in the Budweiser Irish Derby next month by going clear.

Right Wing, the lone English raider, was held up for a late challenge and finished quite well to get the better of one-time Epsom hope and fellow 7-4 joint favourite Media Puzzle in the battle for second place.

Heffernan won the race a year ago for his boss O'Brien on Urban Ocean, and this afternoon's repeat victory by the jockey gave O'Brien his third success in the last four runnings of this 10-furlong trial for the Irish Derby.

'Glyndebourne deserves to go for the Irish Derby now. He is a horse going the right way and I imagine Aidan will run him in the Budweiser,' said Paul Shanahan, spokesman for joint-owners Michael Tabor and Mrs John Magnier.

Kevin Manning, who was aboard John Dunlop's Right Wing, had better luck earlier as he completed a 34-1 double aboard Miracle Ridge (6-1) and Dervorghilla (4-1).
