Dunnes Stores business tycoon, and former trainer, Frank Dunne has died aged 79.

Dunne passed away earlier this week and was buried yesterday.

He remains the only Irish trainer to have won the Japan Cup, having saddled Stanerra to land a famous victory in the 1983 running of the race at Tokyo racecourse.

Dunne last held a trainer's licence in 2016 and more recently his partner Ann Marshall has had horses in training with Johnny Murtagh, Jack Davison and Jessica Harrington.
