Superb racing action continues this weekend with high-class Irish raiders heading over to Newmarket’s Cambridgeshire meeting. Whistlejacket, Babouche and Lake Victoria are set to feature in Group 1 contests, while the Cambridgeshire Handicap is the big betting race and is headed by Emmet Mullins’s This Songisforyou.
The Goffs Million takes place at the Curragh and the final day of the Listowel Festival offers up plenty of betting opportunities.
Our team has selected their best bets of the weekend.
15:10 Curragh Saturday, Premier Handicap 5f
Apache Outlaw has been running well on recent starts and could be about to strike. His rider carried overweight over the course and distance last time when not beaten far in the Brown Lad and could reverse form with Keke here.
16:30 Listowel Saturday, Memorial Handicap Steeplechase 2m6f
Fighting Fit has had a similar preparation to last season when successful at this meeting. Admittedly he didn't perform well on his comeback start at Galway, but has been dropped by the handicapper and can be expected to be competitive despite the burden of top weight.
1.30 Haydock Saturday, Sky Bet For The Fans Handicap 1m
Roger Varian’s 3-y-o handicapper comes here fresh after a break following a lesser effort on very firm ground at the Royal meeting in June, and he should relish this drop in grade with some give in the ground.
3.40 Newmarket Saturday, bet365 Cambridgeshire 1m1f
Ray Craggs useful performer has been a real moneyspinner all summer for his small yard, and seems sure to give his running again with conditions to suit. The booking of the excellent Rossa Ryan increases confidence, with a strong pace on to bring his proven stamina for further into play in the closing stages.
