Finger Onthe Pulse looks set to try and reclaim his crown in the Galway Plate next Wednesday.

The 2010 winner also holds an entry on Tuesday at Ballybrit, for the Latin Quarter Chase, but preference is for another tilt at the big race.

The gelding spoiled his chance by racing keenly in the contest last year but still led the field into the straight before tiring.

Tom Taaffe reports that his stable stalwart has improved significantly from his come-back run over hurdles at Cork just over a fortnight ago and is in good heart ahead of next week.

"I won't know for definite until tomorrow but I think the preference is for him to run in the Plate," said the Straffan handler.

"The top horse is going to run and it leaves him with a nice weight of 10st 5lb.

"The other race is an option and we'll see what the weather does as it's forecast for a lot of rain on Tuesday night.

"I'm happy with him. He came on a lot from his run in Cork and is in good form. The drier the ground the better for him.

"He got buzzed up last year and ran his race beforehand. So allowing for that he ran a serious race to lead them into the straight and just got tired then."
