FOX ON THE GUINEAS TRAIL

Trainer David Elsworth has today confirmed Scarteen Fox a definite runner in Saturday's Entenmann's Irish 2000 Guineas at the Curragh.

The colt finished a close fourth behind Barathea Guest in the Lane's End Greenham Stakes at Newmarket in April but could only finish 19th in the Sagitta 2000 Guineas the following month.

"He runs, he's in good form and Neil Pollard rides," Elsworth said today.

"He wouldn't mind yielding ground but we'll cope with whatever we get."

Elsworth will wait to see how his charge performs on Saturday before deciding whether to drop him in trip from a mile.

"The jockeys who have ridden him have said he should stay a mile and at Newmarket last time he was drawn 26 of 27 so the race was inconclusive.

"He's in the Jersey Stakes and as a long stop I put him in the July Cup so we've kept our options open."

Stablemate Island Sound, who finished fourth after setting a strong pace in the Dee Stakes at Chester last time, will also travel to Ireland for the Airlie Stud Silver Stakes at the Curragh on Sunday.

Richard Quinn takes the ride in the Listed contest.
