FORTUNE SHAKES OFF FLU ON FOLEY

Jimmy Fortune shook off a period on the sick-list to win the first race at Newbury today on Foley Millennium.

Fortune was hit by flu last Monday and a brief return at Goodwood on Thursday resulted in further misery, with the jockey not well enough to take his rides over the next two days.

But with a full book of rides today, he gave his lungs a good airing in the cantorindex.com Novice Stakes when he inspired Foley Millennium, on whom he led at half way, to defeat the odds-on Miss Domuch by a neck.

'Flu or no flu, Jimmy`s given him a great ride,' said trainer Mick Quinn, gaining his eighth success of the year.

Quinn added: 'This horse still isn`t the finished product. We dropped him back a furlong today and Jimmy said to keep him at five.'

Quinn, producing a winning Tote ticket, went on: 'We had a line from Salisbury last month which suggested we could beat the favourite, and we have.'
