Jimmy Fortune today lost his appeal against the suspension he received at Newbury on Sunday at a meeting of the Jockey Club`s disciplinary committee.
Fortune was found guilty of careless riding aboard Farfala in the Cantor Fitzgerald Gilt Edged Chalice Stakes and banned for two days, triggering a further six-day suspension deferred from June under the `totting-up procedure`.
The committee heard evidence from Fortune, who was legally represented, and Michael Hills who rode the winner Miss Lorilaw. It also viewed video recordings of the race.
The committee found that Farfala had interfered with the winner and that it was caused by careless riding on the part of Fortune in that he allowed his mount to drift across to the rail without taking corrective action.
They upheld the suspension, which runs from August 15th to 22nd inclusive and rules Fortune out of the first day of the Ebor meeting at York.
The committee also ordered the deposit money to be forfeited.
At another inquiry trainer Willie Musson was fined #1,000 and jockey Lee Newton banned for seven days over the running and riding of Bintang Timor, ninth in the Champs Elysees Handicap at Windsor on July 3rd.
The hearing followed a review of the horse`s runs under the Jockey`s Club`s monitoring system.
The committee heard evidence from Newton, who was legally represented, and Musson.
It found Newton to be in breach of Rule 158 in that he failed to take all reasonable and permissible measures throughout the race to obtain the best possible placing and suspended him from August 15 to 21 inclusive.
Musson was found in breach of Rule 155(i) and (ii) as a result of the instructions he had given Newton.
Bintang Timor was banned from running for 40 days (August 15th to September 23rd inclusive).
