Cheltenham Festival-winning jockey Rodney Farrant is set for a surprise comeback from retirement, it was reported today.
The 27-year-old, who won the Queen Mother Champion Chase on Martha's Son in 1997, reckons he 'made a mistake' when quitting the saddle in February and is itching to get back to raceriding.
He has put behind him problems relating to a marriage break-up - which he now claims led him to hand in his licence rather than the struggle to make racing pay which he cited at the time.
'All that has been sorted now and all I want to do is concentrate again on being a jockey, Farrant told the Racing Post.
'I realise I made a mistake by retiring but fortunately I haven't left it too long before correcting it and now I just can't wait to get going again.
'I know it's going to be tough to re-establish myself but I've spoken to a lot of trainers and they've been very supportive.
'I'm in it for the long haul from now on and want to prove to everybody that I mean business.'
Farrant has already applied for a riding licence and hopes to be back in action before the end of the month.
