Review FAIRYHOUSE 28TH AUG

Right Key banished any doubts about her attitude to racing when showing great battling qualities to land the Listed Ballycullen Stakes at Fairyhouse.

Kevin Prendergast's filly refused to jump from the stalls in the Yorkshire Oaks on her last start but there were no problems this time as she broke smartly and travelled well behind the leaders.

She responded well to Declan McDonogh's urgings in the straight and challenged Foreign Affairs in the final furlong, finding more in the closing stages for a narrow victory.

'We were disappointed at York,' said McDonogh. 'It was great to get her out, that was the main plan, and she travelled sweetly. She was on song today and is a smart filly.'

David Wachman had a good day claiming both the juvenile events with El Fuego and I Key.

Newcomer El Fuego (4/6f) was a warm order to justify a big reputation in the opening Irish Stallion Farms EBF Maiden.

It took the son of Fusaichi Pegasus a while to hit top gear but he ran on well in the final furlong to get up close home and beat Kingsdale Ocean by half a length.

I Key (4/1) had to come the long way round in the Fairyhouse Nursery but arrived travelling well, before the furlong pole, and stayed on strongly to score by a length from Certainlei.

Abbey Grammer fulfilled the promise of his Galway debut when swooping late under Jerry O'Dwyer to land the Lynam Merit Maiden by half a length from Makishma.

Chained Emotion wore down long-time leader Point Calimere in the final furlong to claim the Kelly's Bar Marbella Handicap while Portant Fella kept on well to repel the late challenge of Fields Of Joy in the Dunboyne Handicap.

Meanwhile at Ballinrobe Noel Meade's Carlesimo gained compensation for being brought down on his chasing debut at Galway by securing a comfortable victory in the Water Towers Chase.

Denis O'Regan had few problems on the gelding, sending him to the front after the third last and recording an easy four-length victory over long-time leader Cash And Carry.

There were several thrilling finishes on the card and the opening CP Supplies Maiden Hurdle saw Russian Tsar just edge out Champagne Cocktail after the pair had battled from the second last.

Five jumped the last with chances in the Gypsum Industries Handicap Hurdle and it was Caislean Na Deirge who prevailed in a tight finish while front-runner Rooftop Protest battled gamely to claim the Connacht Gold Handicap Hurdle.
