John Bowles maintained his recent run of success at Fairyhouse on Saturday when Rahanine Native took the Elm Handicap Hurdle under Stevie Ryder. The 4/1 favourite, providing the Killucan trainer with his sixth winner in the space of eight days, led just before the last to beat outsider Rovet by five lengths. A buoyant Bowles said afterwards: 'I am turning them out in the field more often, and they seem to be alot happier. This mare goes well on top of the ground.'
Shibl justified favouritism in the Chestnut Maiden, settling the issue when driven clear approaching the furlong pole by Stephen Craine. The Manx rider could afford to ease the son of Arazi right down in the closing stages to beat McDab by three lengths. 'Stephen said the horse was hanging slightly as the result of losing a shoe.
Ger's Royale turned the clock back when taking the opening Ash Handicap under Danny Grant. The nine-year-old gelding was recording his ninth victory but his first since taking a Listed race at the Curragh in October 1996.
'He's an old pal, and a most honest horse,' said trainer Pat Flynn afterwards. He added: 'He has been going well at home, and I decided to give him another chance.'
Vivian Kennedy is looking forward to sending Twin Pack over fences next season after the seven-year-old gelding made all under Keiran Kelly in the Beech Novice Hurdle.
