FAIRWAY CRUISES TO VICTORY

Cruise The Fairway raced to an impressive success on his jumping debut in the European Breeders Fund `National Hunt` Novices` Hurdle (Qualifier) at Aintree today and looks sure to go on to better things.

The Mark Pitman-trained gelding mastered Cruise Leader between the last two flights and drew away to beat him by 13 lengths with Kamloops 11 lengths away in third.

Pitman was at Ascot, but his assistance Paul Price explained: 'Cruise The Fairway is a lovely horse £ he does everything so easily.

'He ran a bit free in the bumper here last season and the ground was a bit quick for him, but we thought he ran a blinder for a four-year-old against older horses.'

Reflecting on the season so far for the Pitman team, he added: 'The horses have been there and thereabouts and we are on the same winner mark as we were at the same stage last season.'
