FADALKO HEADS TO HUNTINGDON

Connections today decided to run exciting prospect Fadalko at Huntingdon rather than Ascot tomorrow.

The Paul Nicholls-trained gelding, winner of the Desert Orchid Pattern Chase at Wincanton last time, will face four rivals in the #45,000 Victor Chandler Peterborough Chase rather than run in the First National Gold Cup Chase.

Barry Simpson, racing manager to Fadalko`s owner Robert Ogden, said: 'He runs in the Peterborough Chase.

'We assessed the two races and felt it was possibly the best opportunity for him.'

Following a poor run behind Decoupage at Sandown last season it was thought the seven-year-old was better going left-handed until his comeback success this term.

'Winning right-handed at Wincanton has dispelled the reason why he ran so badly at Sandown,' Simpson added.

'It`s a mystery to this day why he ran so badly at Sandown but that`s a long time ago now.'

Fadalko`s rivals at Huntingdon are Queen Mother Champion Chase winner Edredon Bleu, who has won the race in the last two years, The Outback Way, Brother Of Iris and Flying Instructor.

The #50,000 First National Gold Cup has been reoffered after only attracting three runners at the declaration deadline.

The previous smallest field for the Ascot contest in its 19-year history was five.

Only 38 horses in total were declared for the six races at the Berkshire venue this morning.
