Elliott & Russell complete Limerick doubles The two market principals for the PriceWaterhouseCooper Rated Chase at Limerick today flip-flopped twice, with eventual winner and even money favourite Tombstone completing doubles on the day for trainer Gordon Elliott and Champion Jockey Davy Russell. Tombstone was installed the 11/10 morning favourite, ahead of 11/8 chance Montalbano, but Montalbano was backed into 8/11 favourite by afternoon. On course, Montalbano opened a 10/11 chance and Tombstone 6/4, but the pair again flip-flopped with Tombstone eventually returning the even money favourite, ahead of easy to back Montalbano, at 6/4. In the race, Tombstone moved past Montalbano at the second last and in the end scored a two lengths win over his market rival. Winning trainer Elliott had earlier won with Water Sprite, for jockey Liam McKenna, while Russell's earlier winner was in the opening Listed hurdle on the Eric McNamara trained Percy Veer. Elliott wasn't present but Russell later said “Davy Condon does a sterling job with this horse at home; he can be difficult and Davy is the only one who rides him. "He has run to his mark there, beating the second rated 142 rated horse giving him 2lbs." "It was a lovely opportunity for him and he has won a nice race there."
