Willie Mullins and Ruby Walsh got the Christmas Festival meeting at Leopardstown off to the best possible start when taking the opening Horse & Jockey Hotel Maiden Hurdle with Bunk Off Early
The Zebedee gelding won on the level for Andy Oliver last year, and was well supported into 7/4 favourite on his hurdle debut following a 14-month break.
The grey was prominent throughout, and stayed on strongly from before the last to beat chief market rival Outspoke by five and a half lengths. No Brainer was a further five lengths adrift in third.
Mullins said, "He was very impressive. He pulled very hard, and if he settles hopefully he can be alot better."
Walsh said, “He was a bit keen. He jumped well, and quickened smartly to win. It was a good performance.”
Boylesports have introduced the winner at 25/1 for the Supreme Novices Hurdle, while Ladbrokes go 20/1 and he's just 16/1 with Betfair.
