EGAN OFF TO PASTURES NEW

John Egan bade farewell to British racing for what could be an indefinite period with two unplaced rides on Temeraire and Ivory Dawn at Ascot today.

The jockey is to ride for the Hong Kong Jockey Club until late December, after which he may spend some time in India.

Egan`s desire to ride at the Hong Kong tracks of Happy Valley and Sha Tin has been accelerated by his determination to spend more time with his wife Sandra and one-year-old son David.

As he left Ascot, the jockey explained: 'I ve ridden in Macau on several occasions and clocked-up around 200 winners there, but my only previous experience of Hong Kong was in last year s International meeting at which I rode Tedburrow in the Sprint.

'I`ll be retained by the Jockey Club and can`t wait. The travelling here does you down and I want to spend more time with my baby son.'

This season Egan has notched 40 winners from 376 rides.
