EDMOND OUT

Henry Daly today finally ruled Coral Welsh National winner Edmond out of Saturday's Martell Grand National.

He had long warned that the gelding would miss the race unless the going was suitably soft.

And the trainer said this morning: "Edmond will not run.

"Although we have had heavy rain, and it is in fact snowing this morning, we have taken the decision on the back of the forecast which is for it to be dry from Tuesday onwards.

"I had a chat with his owner Lady Knutsford and that was that."

Daly still has leading fancy Star Traveller in the race, and he reported the nine-year-old in good order.

"Star Traveller is absolutely fine and just had a canter this morning," he said.

Aintree has had a wet weekend and the going on the Grand National course is now officially good to soft, soft in places.

On the Mildmay and hurdle courses, the going is good, good to soft in places.

Clerk of the course Ian Renton said: "We have had half an inch of rain over the weekend and a bit more rain is forecast today, tonight, tomorrow and then it should be dry from Tuesday afternoon onwards."
