Pat Eddery is to appeal against the four-day suspension he picked up for irresponsible riding at Redcar yesterday which is set to rule him out of the Breeders` Cup meeting at Churchill Downs.
He was found guilty of `irresponsible riding of a minor nature` aboard Lucky Gitano, the winner of the Come Home To The Racing Channel Handicap.
The ban covers November 3, 4, 6 & 7, and as he starts another four-day ban tomorrow he collected at Yarmouth last week and picked up another three days (October 31-November 2) at Newbury on Saturday, he will in fact miss the rest of the Turf Flat season if the appeal fails.
Eddery was due to be in action at Yarmouth today, but gave up his rides because of a stomach upset.
But he said from his home this afternoon: 'I have been offered the ride on Indian Lodge in the Breeders` Cup Mile, but that is not the reason I am appealing, I am appealing because I did nothing wrong.
'There was room was for me to go, but whenI went in the gap my horse jinked left and you can clearly see me pulling on my right rein and trying to pull him off, but they did not take this into consideration.
'They never looked at it properly, you could see as it was happening that I was trying to pull him off (the other horse).'
Eddery has now amassed 18 days of suspensions under Rule 171 governing interference in the past 12 months.
As a result if he is found guilty of a similar offence at the start of next year, the offence would be referred to the Jockey Club under the totting-up process and he would face a lengthy spell on the sidelines.
