EASTERN TRIP FOR PURPLE

Kevin Ryan has wasted no time in accepting the invitation to run Eastern Purple in the Hong Kong Sprint at Sha Tin on December 17th.

Eastern Purple has run consistently well this season, gaining his solitary success in the Group Three Phoenix Sprint Stakes at Leopardstown in August.

And his English trainer enthused: 'It is brilliant to have got in. I thought we might just have been one of the reserves so we are really looking forward to going over there.

'We have kept him ticking over since the his last run here and we are well forward with him really - we will probably take him for three of four gallops at Southwell to put him spot-on.'

Ryan, who is expecting South African jockey Basil Marcus to team up with the five-year-old again, added: 'Basil getting on him over here coincided with us having the horse gelded after Royal Ascot, which has really been the making of him.

'Basil is a top man over there in Hong Kong, and he has shown he gets on very well with Eastern Purple so we will be pleased to have him on our side.'
