Dual Listed winner Downforce bridged a gap of almost three years between wins at the Curragh today as the Willie McCreery's trained nine year old defied top weight to win the Paddy Power From The Horse's Mouth Handicap under jockey Nathan Crosse.
The soft ground-loving son of Fast Company's previous win was in Cork Stakes, held at Naas in April 2018 and today ended a 16-race losing spell when beating Indigo Balance by 2.75L to notch a seventh career win.
Afterwards McCreery stated “it must be tacky enough. I thought all week that it was drying out too much for the two of them (the winner and seventh placed stablemate Gobi Desert but Nathan said he loved it.
“He jumped out, barreled along the whole way, and enjoyed himself.
“We'll go back down to Cork in two weeks for the Listed race (Cork Stakes) that he has won twice.
“It's great to see him back. He didn't win a race last year but was third in a Listed race towards the end of last year and is a good little money earner for Donal Finnan so I'm delighted.”
