It’s nearly a surprise if Darragh O’Keeffe isn’t among the winners whatever meeting he’s riding at, and the season’s leading claimer was successful in the Kilcawley Construction Maiden Hurdle on Dollar Value (10/1) for trainer Tom McCourt.

The four-year-old gelding by Exchange Rate was a winner over 7f on the all-weather when with previous trainer Robert Cowell, but stamina seems to be his strong suit nowadays.

O’Keeffe produced him at the final flight and he galloped on to beat Steel Cap (3/1) and Waitnsee (33/1) by a length and a quarter and the same.

The 9/10 favourite Westport Lady had a chance two out but couldn’t find any extra once turning for home.

The winning trainer Tom McCourt said: “Denis O’Regan rode him the last day and thought all he did was stay. We took the 5lb off to give him every chance.

“He’s a lovely big horse and will jump a fence in time. I thought we would have got a handicap mark after three runs so that’s why we came here (for a maiden).

“It’s great for Peter Jordan. He’s a builder and had plenty of horses with me through the good times.”
