Murphy’s Delight put in a game, battling performance to land the Irish Stallion Farms EBF Maiden for David Wachman and Wayne Lordan.
The three-year-old son of Hurricane Run was sent off the short priced favourite on his last start at Leopardstown, but he could only manage fourth there to Convocate.
Stepped up in trip this evening to a mile and a half for the first time, the Michel de Carvalho owned colt was well-supported, and having opened at 11/8 this morning with Paddy Power, he went from 5/4 to 11/10 clear favourite on-course. Wandering Star was the early morning favourite with Powers, opening at 11/10, however she was friendless on track, going from 7/4 to 9/4.
The victorious 'jolly' broke smartly from the stalls, and despite running off the bend a bit away from the stands, he maintained his lead until he was joined and marginally headed by Ebaniya with over a furlong and a half to race.
However he battled back gamely to regain the lead in the final furlong, keeping on best to score by half a length.
Ebaniya, who made her debut just last week at Ballinrobe, had to settle for second under Declan McDonogh for John Oxx, while Wandering Star finished a further four and three parts of a length back in third under Pat Smullen for Dermot Weld.
Wayne Lordan said afterwards: “He stays well, although he had had bit of trouble negotiating the bend.
"He had some good runs under his belt and he was entitled to do that. He is tough and genuine."
Wachman wasn’t present at Roscommon, but he said via the phone: "He was a shade weak in the spring but he has strengthened up well through the summer and he will continue to do so.
"He is an honest and very genuine sort. He came into this off a couple of decent runs and he should keep progressing."
The winner was purchased by Wachman for 30,000 Guineas at Tattersalls in November of 2011.
