DROWNE NEARS COMEBACK

Steve Drowne, who broke his left leg in June, has been given the all-clear to return to the saddle next week.

The jockey smashed his leg, which has been pinned and plated, after he was thrown on the way to the start of a maiden race at Folkestone on June 30th.

He was on target to break his personal best tally of 57 winners and had recorded 31 successes, including the Coventry Stakes at Royal Ascot aboard Cd Europe, at the time of his injury.

'I spoke to Dr Michael Turner (Jockey Club medical officer) today and I`ve got the green light,' said Drowne.

'I`ll probably have my first ride in the middle of next week but I`ll have to see the entries and what mounts I am offered.

'I`m feeling absolutely fine and raring to go at the moment. Obviously I`d love to come back with a winner, but just getting back is good enough for me.'
