DOWN ROYAL INSPECT, CLONMEL OFF

Down Royal have called a precautionary inspection at 10am tomorrow for the big meeting on Friday and Saturday.

However, officials are hopeful that the cards, featuring the James Nicholson Wine Merchant Champion Chase on Saturday, will beat the weather.

Racecourse manager Mike Todd said today: 'The chase course is in good shape and there are no problems there.

'However part of the River Lagan has overflowed and the hurdles course is affected for a distance of 50 yards.

'I am confident we can go ahead with the present drying winds but last night we had an inch more rain than was forecast.'

Meanwhile trainer Noel Chance said today that Cheltenham Gold Cup winner Looks Like Trouble is set to travel to Down Royal tomorrow.

'I am in no panic,' Chance said. 'I could even travel on Thursday.'

Slaney Native, an intended runner in the Thomas Pink Chase at Cheltenham on Saturday, may be re-routed to Down Royal because of the uncertainty over the ferries.

Jessica Harrington`s charge is in the Isuzu Chase, the second-richest race on Saturday`s card.

The current spell of wet weather has also claimed the meeting at Clonmel on Thursday.
