Unbeaten hurdler Monsignor is set to step up in distance when he warms up for March's National Hunt Festival later this month.
He completed a hat-trick of wins at two miles in the Grade One Tolworth Hurdle at Sandown last Saturday.
But Mark Pitman is undecided whether to aim him at the Capel Cure Sharp Supreme Novices' Hurdle over that trip at Cheltenham or to bid for the 21-furlong Royal & SunAlliance Novices' Hurdle.
So he is to try the six-year-old, winner of the Festival Bumper at Cheltenham last season, over two and a half miles.
"The plan is that, subject to agreement with the owner, we'll probably go for the River Don Novices' Hurdle at Doncaster on January 29th, over two and a half miles," the trainer said on the Racing Channel.
"That will crystallise our thoughts for Cheltenham."
The Grade Two River Don was won 12 months ago by subsequent Royal & SunAlliance Novices' Hurdle winner Barton.
