Champion jockey Frankie Dettori made a dream comeback at Newmarket today two months after a plane crash that nearly killed him.
His first mount in public since the accident, the Sean Woods-trained Atlantis Prince, won the Tote Exacta Conditions Stakes, at 11-4.
After dismounting in the winner`s enclosure, Dettori shouted to the crowds: 'It`s nice to be back, I feel great.'
Dettori and fellow jockey Ray Cochrane were injured on June 1 when the light aircraft flying them from Newmarket to Goodwood plummeted 300 feet to the ground shortly after taking off.
His injuries included a broken right ankle, rib damage and facial cuts and burns.
Ironically, Cochrane, who returned two weeks ago, also rode a winner 30 minutes before, aboard Celebration Town in the Tote `totalbet.com` Handicap.
Dettori said: 'It was nice of Sean to get the horse ready for me, I just had to do my bit. There`s nothing like race-riding for getting you fit!'
