Frankie Dettori is set to make his return to race-riding in less than a week, the superstar jockey revealed today.
The popular Italian, who suffered a broken ankle in the plane crash which killed pilot Patrick Mackey at Newmarket on July 1, rode work earlier this week for the first time since the accident.
He told Channel 4 Racing's Morning Line: 'I've been riding out all week. I rode two bits of work this morning, one puller and one lazy horse so I am having the best of both worlds!
'I am hoping to start riding again towards the end of next week, Thursday, Friday or Saturday. Where or what I don't know.'
Dettori is travelling to Ascot today to watch the King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Diamond Stakes, one of the most prestigious events of the season, where he is unable to envisage a defeat for hot favourite Montjeu.
'The only way to beat him is if he takes the wrong course,' he joked.
'I think he cannot be beaten, he'll be a clear-cut winner.'
