DETTORI ARC DELIGHT

Frankie Dettori will have a ride in Sunday`s Prix de l`Arc de Triomphe-Lucien Barriere after all.

The Italian will partner Hesiode for French trainer Jean-Claude Rouget in the Longchamp contest, for which 13 horses stood their ground at today`s forfeit stage.

It had looked as if Dettori would be without a mount in the 12-furlong contest as opposition to Montjeu and Sinndar melted away.

Dettori`s principal employer Godolphin have left Mutafaweq in the race but he now appears to be an unlikely runner.

Hesiode was unplaced behind Holding Court in the French Derby and has finished third in the Prix Hocquart, Prix Eugene Adam and Prix Guillaume d`Ornano this season.

Dettori`s agent Andrew Stringer said today: 'He`ll ride Hesiode. We just tied things up yesterday.

'The horse was third behind Frankie when he rode Best Of The Bests to win at Deauville.

'It`s nice for him to be out there riding in the race rather than sitting in the weighing room.'

Dettori has picked upplenty of other rides over the Arc weekend including Prix Vermeille runner-up Reve d`Oscar in the Prix de l`Opera on Sunday.

Stringer added: 'On Saturday we`ve five rides and five, possibly six on Sunday, so it`s not a bad book.'

Montjeu and Sinndar dominate the betting for the Arc as the field looks set to be the smallest since Trempolino beat 10 rivals in 1987.

The former, aiming for a second consecutive Arc triumph for trainer John Hammond, is joined by stablemate and pacemaker Stop By.

Owner Michael Tabor said: 'Montjeu is in good form and has worked very well since the Prix Foy.

'We`ve got a very good horse to beat in Sinndar and he`ll be in a race.

'It`s possible he might go to Newmarket for the Champion Stakes _ we`ll have to see how he comes out of the Arc.'

John Oxx is expected to supplement dual Derby winner Sinndar`s pacemaker Raypour for the race on Thursday.

Potential British challengers are thin on the ground for the contest.

Apart from Mutafaweq, winner of the St Leger last season, the John Gosden-trained Commander Collins is the only possible.

Germany are set to be represented by Grosser Preis von Baden winner Samum, while Japan`s Air Shakur, fifth behind Montjeu in the King George VI And Queen Elizabeth Diamond Stakes at Ascot in July, is also in the field.

The home team includes French Oaks winner Egyptband and Volvoreta, who finished second to Egyptband in that race but beat her into third in the Prix Vermeille last time.
