DERMOT WELD'S TOP HOPES FOR 2000

Three-year-olds

Media Puzzle: 'He won easily at the Curragh on Sunday and I think a lot of him. In fact I think he could be a serious horse. The Derrinstown Trial followed by the Irish Derby is what I'm currently thinking of. His temperament is good but Theatrical's produce can all be eccentric.'

Grand Finale: 'I've a high regard for Apollo Victoria who this horse beat at Gowran. He's still a little shelly and will improve a lot this year. We'll know more about him on Sunday when he runs in the Ballysax Stakes.'

Legal Jousting: 'He won his maiden very well and we'll see what he does in Stakes class in either the Leopardstown Trial or the Tetrarch. If he answers that call, I can see him being an Irish 2,000 Guineas horse.'

Murawwi: 'He was 50 to 1 when beaten just a head in the National Stakes last year and had Jammaal a length back in third which I didn't expect. He's a tough bloke who's working good and could go for the Tetrarch if Legal Jousting didn't.'

Older horses

Major Force: 'He had a hold up during the winter but the plan is to run him in the Group Two Sandown Mile, if he gets his ground. He loves the soft and I'll take my time and produce him for the second part of the year.'

Timote: 'She has done awfully well during the winter and I'll run her in a Listed race at Cork at the start of May. Kieren Fallon says she was unlucky not to win the Prix de l'Abbaye last year but I wouldn't go quite that far. She might have been placed but she'll be a high-class sprinter.'
