Fromsong tried to make all the running in the Group Three contest and, to his credit, battled on well, but he had no answer to Danehurst in the final furlong, going down by two and a half lengths.
Racegoers saw another distinctly useful two-year-old in Clearing who, despite holding up the start by 15 minutes to be re-shod, showed no ill-effects in the Vodafone Horris Hill Stakes, landing the contest by three and a half lengths and a short head from Prizeman and newcomer Frenchmans Bay.
Gaelic Storm confirmed his liking for Newbury by making the Schroeders Rated Handicap a second victory in the race in the last three runnings, having finished second in the 1999 race.
Mark Johnston`s gelding was confidently ridden by Darryl Holland to score by twoand-a-half lengths from Grey Eminence. Ian Balding reached the half-century mark for the year when Distant Prospect, who he inherited from the now-retired Rupert Arnold, completed a hat-trick in the Vodafone Group Handicap.
The concluding sprint handicap went to Mick Quinn`s Frampant (33-1), who held off Absolute Fantasy by half a length.
