Trainer Gavin Cromwell is to aim for blacktype with his recent Newmarket winner Vera Verto, which has bagged two big-money prizes in the past two months.
Winner of a 1m4f €45,000 Listowel handicap in September, the Prince Of Lir five-year-old followed up with another success in a Premier Fillies Handicap, worth £70,000, at Newmarket on Saturday.
Cromwell reports “Vera Verto got a great ride on the day against the three-year-olds. He (Rob Hornby) sent her plenty early and took the sting out of them. It was a nice pot to win with her and we’ll try and chase a bit of black type with her now.
“There is a 1m6f Listed race in Bath in a few weeks’ time and we might try that.”
He added “I don’t think we’ll go back over hurdles with her. She’s not in love with it and even when we were running her over hurdles she just wasn’t enjoying life at all at home — her training wasn’t the same.
“She’s much sweeter now and I think she knows that she doesn’t have to jump and life is much easier for her.
“The lads (From The Clouds Partnership) are really enjoying it and she is certainly paying her way.”
