There is much anticipation in advance of the Guinness Kerry National Handicap Chase at Listowel on Wednesday, not least with trainer Gavin Cromwell as he challenges strongly for the big prize courtesy of Flooring Porter and Perceval Legallois.

The County Meath trainer recently conversed with journalist Dave Keena and he said: "Obviously going left-handed for Flooring Porter is important and it looks the ideal race.

"It's the first proper experience at a handicap but hopefully he's off a workable mark - the race should suit and he's in good form.

"It was back before Galway now (his last run). We wanted to get a run in. It was over a short trip and it wasn't ideal but we were happy with his jumping and going left-handed at Killarney it was nice to get a run in.

"His work has been good of late so hopefully he's going there with a chance."

Perceval Legallois meanwhile bids to step-up on a Galway Plate 8th placing and Cromwell reasoned: "He'd probably appreciate a little more juice in the ground.

"Things didn't happen for him in the Galway Plate. He missed the start and ended up a little bit wide everywhere.

"He missed a couple of fences at important times in the race but he ran well and seems in good nick.

"You need plenty of luck in those races and if he gets the luck hopefully he has a chance as well."
