Cork to hold an inspection in the morning Cork will have to pass an early morning inspection if tomorrow’s meeting is to go ahead due to an unsettled weather forecast. Clerk of the Course Val O’Connell said, “Due to the current weather forecast we will have an 8am inspection at Cork on Saturday morning ahead of racing. “Temperatures are to reach 3C or 4C today but there is a possibility it could drop to a low of -2C again tonight. “Temperatures are to rise throughout tomorrow morning with rain coming in from 9am. There is a Status Yellow rain and snow warning in place from 1pm tomorrow afternoon so we will keep monitoring that situation and liaising with Met Eireann. “We look like we will get 3-4mm of rain prior to racing tomorrow and the heaviest to come thereafter.” The going at Cork is currently described as yielding to soft following a dry 24 hours and frost overnight. A seven-race card featuring the Irish Stallion Farms EBF Mares Handicap Hurdle is scheduled to get underway at 12.30. Met Eireann have also issued a Status Orange snow and ice warning for six counties — Carlow, Kilkenny, Wicklow, Clare, Limerick and Tipperary. The weather warning, with significant snowfall expected, begins on Saturday evening at 5pm and lasts for 24 hours. There is also an inspection planned at Naas on Sunday morning at 7.30 ahead of the Grade 1 Lawlor’s Of Naas Novice Hurdle meeting.
