Champion Apprentice records Sligo double Champion Apprentice Connor King is proving that last season's successes were no fluke and completed a double at Sligo today on Daredevil Day which completed an across-the-card double for trainer Joe Murphy in the Guinness Handicap. King held the son of Holy Roman Emperor up behind the leaders for much of the trip and while he was forced wide to make his challenge entering the home straight, stayed on well for an easy two and a half lengths win over Kabjoy. Afterwards Murphy, whose Consonance earlier won at Gowran, stated “he's a small horse but I like him. He was a bit green and there's a bit more improvement to come hopefully. “His owner (Neilus Hayes) is a lovely man and a handicap at Galway will probably be his target. A mile and a half wouldn't do him any harm.” King, crowed Champion Apprentice last season with 38 winners, earlier steered Madam Mo to win a fillies' maiden. By Thomas Weekes, quotes from Gary Carson
