Crimplene is still on course for the Breeders` Cup despite disappointing at Ascot on Saturday.
Clive Brittain`s triple Group-One winning filly finished eighth behind Observatory, beaten seven and a quarter lengths, in the Queen Elizabeth II Stakes after weakening in the final two furlongs.
'She`s come out of her race fine and eaten up,' Brittain said this morning. 'She looks a picture.'
The Newmarket trainer believes the rain softened ground was to blame for Crimplene`s below-par effort.
He said: 'Like Philip (Robinson) said she travelled well until he let her down and then the sticky ground found her out. I thought she would go on the soft but obviously I was wrong.
'She`ll still go to Churchill Downs. She`ll run in the Breeders` Cup Distaff over nine furlongs on dirt.
'She ran on dirt in the UAE Derby in March so she`s had some practice on the surface.'
