Jebel Ali Review Friday, March 3rd
Kieran McLaughlin continued his plunder of the major events at Jebel Ali this season and may have unearthed a possible Godolphin Mile entrant in Cornish Snow after that horse's win in today's Jebel Ali Mile.
Formerly run at the final meeting of Jebel Ali's season, the Jebel Ali Mile was moved forward to accommodate runners needing a lead-up to the US$250,000 Godolphin Mile at Nad Al Sheba on March 25th.
Cornish Snow completed the treble for the McLaughlin stable in the Jebel Ali features for the season, in December Keltoi won the Jebel Ali Stakes and last month the sprinter Hattab won the Jebel Ali Sprint.
This was the seventh renewal of the Jebel Ali Mile and it was the fifth time McLaughlin was collecting the trophy, among his previous winners include Jarah and Soviet Line.
'He is a horse with a lot of ability and showed his versatility here,' McLaughlin said, 'He has won on all services here in the UAE.'
Cornish Snow was confirming the form of the Listed National Day Cup he won earlier in the season on the turf with his victory over Fire Thunder here, that horse also finishing second to him at Abu Dhabi.
Abreeze ran his best race of the season when a god third, coming from last, while the Godolphin trio of Slip Stream, Blue Snake and Maidaan, a last start winner of the President's Cup at Abu Dhabi, was next.
Cornish Snow's win was the first of a winning double for Richard Hills, following this with a win aboard Razik in the final event, that horse proving too good for the Saeed bin Suroor-trained Nowrass.
McLaughlin made it a quick double when Eddie Ahern rode Khafaaq to victory in the following event while Dhruba Selvaratnam and Willie Supple secured trebles, winning the opening two events with the Purebred Arabian Kerbera and the thoroughbred newcomer Shaheyn before Chivalric's victor in the penultimate event.
