Review CORK 8TH JUL

Mick Kinane bagged a double at Cork courtesy of short-priced favourites Who Could Tell and Sweet Afton.

The John Oxx-trained Who Could Tell just held on by the narrowest of margins in a thrilling finish to the opening Cork Racecourse Mallow BBQ Maiden.

The 11/10f hit the front a furlong out but had to hang on in the closing stages as both Marias Dream and The Carbon Unit finished strongly on the outside.

Kinane had an easier time on Sweet Afton as the 8/11f cruised to victory in the Mallow Median Auction Maiden.

Paul Carberry partnered his first winner since returning from a broken collar-bone when Fergus Vale gained an easy success in the Excellent Choice Maiden Hurdle.

Carberry was at his confident best on Kieran Purcell's gelding and could afford several glances around down the straight as he cruised to a five length win over Crossbarry Boy.

Leading apprentice Chris Hayes was on the mark again as Night Delight just held the renewed challenge of Scripted by a head in the Ballyclough Handicap.

Missed Trip moved stylishly into the lead three out when landing the Goggin & Buckley Mares Handicap Hurdle while Temporary Setback just got up in the dying strides to deny Victory Run in the Sand and Gravel Products Maiden Hurdle.

Star Horse got off the mark over fences when landing the Citroen Novice Chase at Wexford.

Barry Geraghty had few worries on the gelding and trainer Jessica Harrington will aim him at Galway following the easy three-length victory over Point Fix.

Larne car dealer Roy Wilson enjoyed a night to remember when saddling his first winner on the racecourse courtesy of Miss Kilkeel in the County Wexford Publicans (Mares) Maiden Hurdle.

Davy Condon gave Heritage a well-judged front running ride in the Carlesberg Lager Handicap Chase as Sue Bramall's gelding recorded his first win since October 2001.

Nicky O'Shea partnered his first winner for new boss Dessie Hughes when giving Parlessence a strong ride to land the opening Guinness Handicap Hurdle.

Tauranga just got up in the dying strides to deny Siniyya in the Lynam Merit Maiden. Owner John Brennan revealed that the winner will go for another Flat contest at Galway before pursuing a jumping career.
