British challenger Osterhase landed the featured Cork Stakes over five furlonfs at Cork yesterday. Trained by his Somerset-based owner Malcolm Saunders, Repertory came a second time to deny Osterhase by a short head and he could now contest a five furlong race at Newmarket's Guineas meeting in early-May.
It was Michael Kinane who was on board Osterhase and the multiple champion later atoned by combining with the absent David Wachman to capture the Kanturk Median Auction Maiden with Sophister.
Jim Gorman and Pat Shanahan teamed-up to land the opening Macroom Handicap with Vijay. Owned by Margaret McWey, Vijay struck the front a furlong out to beat top-weight Brigadier Monty by three parts of a length.
The formidable Dermot Weld/Pat Smullen alliance struck when Evolving Tactics beat favourite Sharesha in the Newmarket Maiden and the Machiavellian colt will be campaigned in Stakes compant later on in the season.
John Beamish (23) rode his initial winner on the racecourse by steering Heavens Is Above to victory for west Waterford permit-holder Pauline Gore-Cogan in the Bach & Commander Collins Maiden Hunters Chase. Heavens Is Above actually beat Mr Dance A Lot by twenty-five lengths.
Tadgh O'Shea was on the mark at his local track when producing the Michael Grassick-trained Major Title with a well-timed challenge to repel Tarry Flynn by two lengths in the Siucra Handicap.
