Ray Cochrane is set to build up his fitness regime with a view to a quicker-than-expected return to the saddle for the start of the July Meeting at Newmarket a week on Tuesday.
He had anticipated being out of action for two months after sustaining multiple injuries in the plane crash at Newmarket four weeks ago which claimed the life of pilot Patrick Mackey and left Frankie Dettori with a broken ankle.
But the jockey said today: 'I've been feeling a lot better in the last week.
'I've been walking since the day after I left hospital and have been gradually picking up.
'I've started jogging and I'll build up my fitness regime over the next two weeks. I've put pressure on my body and it has held up - I'm happy with the way things are going.'
Cochrane sees the July meeting as a realistic target for his comeback.
'There is just under a fortnight to go so I think it's viable - as long as there are no setbacks,' he said.
'I'll play it by ear - I just want to get back to work.'
