CLASSIC HOPES ON TRIAL AT LINGFIELD

A total of 15 horses have been entered today for the Gartner Derby Trial at Lingfield on Saturday.

The Group Three contest could have a significant effect on the ante-post market for the Vodafone Derby with Aidan O'Brien and Godolphin both holding multiple entries.

O'Brien's quartet includes last year's Royal Lodge Stakes winner Royal Kingdom, a 33-1 chance for the Epsom Classic with William Hill, who finished fifth in the Prix de Fontainebleau over a mile at Longchamp last month.

Ballydoyle could also be represented by Apollo Victoria, Bashkir and Mythological.

Godolphin have two possible contenders in Dubai Two Thousand and River's Curtain, who are 16-1 and 20-1 respectively for the Derby with Hills.

The former won his only start at two for David Loder at Longchamp before finishing fifth in a private trial at Nad Al Sheba last month, one place behind River's Curtain who had also won his sole outing as a juvenile for Andre Fabre.

Luca Cumani, who won this race in 1998 with subsequent Derby hero High-Rise, has entered recent Brighton winner Trumpet Sound.

The Listed Victor Chandler Oaks Trial has attracted 10 fillies including the unbeaten daughter of Sadler's Wells Chiang Mai, trained by O'Brien.

Henry Cecil, who sent out Oaks winners Lady Carla and Ramruma to score here in 1996 and 1999, could be represented by the maiden Burning Sunset.

The Caerleon filly finished third to Dream Quest at Sandown last time and could meet the John Dunlop-trained filly again.
