A particulary exuberant flying dismount heralded another Classic victory for Godolphin at the Curragh today and Frankie Dettori had every right to be pleased with himself after giving Bachir a supreme tactical ride to land the Entenmann's Irish 2,000 Guineas.
The son of Desert Style (4-1), already a classic victor at Longchamp earlier this month in the French version, lead from pillar-to-post to see off the challenge of 9/10 favourite Giant's Causeway by a neck.
The winner became the first horse to complete the French-Irish double and provided the Dubai operation with their first success in the Curragh classic.
Bounced out in front, a lack of early pace left Dettori controlling matters. Cape Town chased the leader from the stalls with Giant's Causeway settled in third.
The race started in earnest from two furlongs out with Giant's Causeway asked for an effort while Barathea Guest, who was tracking the Aidan O'Brien colt, came under pressure.
It was soon down to three with Bachir flanked by Cape Town and Giant's Causeway but Dettori's mount kept answering the calls as Giant's Causeway pushed him all the way to the line - failing by a neck with three-quarters-of-a-length back to Cape Town, who ran a tremendous race to finish third.
'This pace wasn't that hot and it suited us well.' reported Godolphin racing manger Simon Crisford.
'He battled well all the way to the line and Frankie was pleased with him and with himself.
'He's top class and is very versatile. He handles any ground and goes on the sand as well. He's deserves to be a dual classic winner.
'He will go for the St James Palace at Royal Ascot where China Visit (his Godolphin stablemate) will put him to the test and then he'll have a midsummer rest.
'We hope to emulate Desert Prince who won the Irish Guineas before going on to land the St James Palace.'
