CIRO BIDS FOR MORE FRENCH GLORY

Aidan O'Brien is set to rely on Ciro in Sunday's Emirates Airlines Prix du Jockey-Club (French Derby).

The Ballydoyle trainer provided four of the 26 five-day acceptors for the Chantilly race today.

But he told the Irish Times: "All going well the plan is to run Ciro in the French Derby.

"He has pleased us since his last race and he seems to like France. Bach will run in the nine-furlong race."

Ciro was awarded the Grand Criterium at Longchamp last autumn and landed the Prix Lupin on the same course a fortnight ago.

O'Brien has yet to win a French Classic, and his Saratoga Springs finished fourth when favourite for the Prix du Jockey-Club two years ago.

Godolphin have five colts left in the Chantilly race, including Vodafone Derby hope Best Of The Bests.

John Dunlop has left in Sakhee and Millenary, winners respectively of the Dante Stakes and Chester Vase, while fellow English trainer Paul Cole has five acceptors.

Possible home-trained contenders for a race won by a French horse in eight of the past nine runnings include Alain de Royer Dupre's Prix Hocquart winner Lord Flasheart and Freddie Head's Prix Lupin second Kutub.
